In health we were set a task that required us to pick a topic and research about it and answer our 5 big questions. Firstly we had to pick a topic and make up 5 big questions we would have to answer later on. Once we had our 5 big questions we did a lot of research to get the information we needed to answer them. We then had to choose what we were going to show our 5 big questions on. My teammate and myself chose to make a imovie. We wrote down 10 questions that relates to our 5 big questions, then we went and got people from our class and asked them some questions. It was challenging when we had to find people to question because on one really wanted to do it. I worked well with my partner because we work together a lot. I'm also really proud of how we answered our 5 big questions.
This is our 5 big questions:
Why is Skin cancer Harmful?
Skin cancer can really affect your life, you have to drop a lot of things so you can overcome it. This influences cancer because it can affect your mental and emotional wellbeing as well because you can't do what you want. Well you can but if you get really sick you will be slowly dying so you won’t have energy to do things. You will also be in pain because it can be a sore that doesn’t heal over a few weeks or it can be itchy or tender. It can also cause you to not be able to play sports or even move, you might become reliable for others to do things for you.
What short term and long term effects does skin cancer have on people?
Some consequences of long term effects are, it could ruin your social life and your mental/emotional well being because you are sick all the time and you could start chemo. But if you have a short time to live like 6 months, you should live your life till you pass away, do everything you always wanted to do, you could write a bucket list then do all of that before you pass, just live your life to the fullest.
How do you overcome skin cancer?
Some strategies you could do is, choose from a variety of treatments such as surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, which is a different method for different types of cancer but for skin cancer you have a cream you put on your skin. You should also think positively because cancer can already have such an impact on your emotional wellbeing that if you are negative then it will make it worse.
Who is disadvantaged and advantaged in relation to gender and sexuality?
A lot of the time doctors will treat younger people first then they will treat older people, because they think that the older people will die sooner. Sometimes doctors won’t treat people that are foreigners or they won’t treat people that don’t have enough money. Sometimes when transgender people or people that are gay, lesbain or bisexaul don’t get given the treatment because the doctors are homiphobic and don’t accept them. A lot of people take this personally because the doctors are treating them differently.
How does it pass down from one family member to another?
Skin cancer is a genetic type of cancer that basically means that it runs through your family and you can get tested to make sure you don’t have the gene. Someone can get skin cancer and it won’t pass down in the family, it is a 50/50 chance of it running down your family. Interpersonally, a parent may pass down a copy of their normal gene or they could pass down a copy of the cancerous gene.
