I am a student at in Uru Mānuka. In 2020 I was a year 9 and in 2021 I will be a year 10. This is a place where I will be able to share my learning with you. Please note....some work won't be edited - just my first drafts, so there may be some surface errors. I would love your feedback, comments, thoughts and ideas.

Social Studies- The Black Death
What was life like in the middle ages? Interestingly, it depends if you were rich or poor. Life was amazing for the rich and horrible for the poor. There was rubbish and rats everywhere in the streets that it made them really unclean and dirty. In every house even the castle with the kings/ queens there was poo underneath their rooms. The rich and poor basically lived the same but the rich just had a lot more room, their houses were all messy and were never cleaned. That is one of the reasons why The Black Death spread so easily through Europe. Living in the middle ages was disgusting.

Tea bag Experiment
Today in science we did an experiment lighter/matches and tea bags. We had to empty out a teabag and then light it up, on the top.
Aim: To observe convection in real life.
Equipment: Lighters, Matches, Tea bags, Heatmat,
Steps:
1- Get a tea bag and cut the top off.
2- Tip out the inside of the tea bag.
3- Stand the tea bag up on the heat mat.
4. Carefully light the top off it with the lighter/matches.
5- Watch it float up in the air.
Conclusion: I saw that as soon as the flame got to the bottom of the tea bag, and i watched it convect and increase in size. Convection is when something heats up it floats in the air, and when it cools down it goes back down.

Business
In business we are learning about enterprising. We had a worksheet to fill out about the important skills for enterprising.
Here is my work...
Here is the quote I think is motivational

State Of Matter.
In science we have been learning about Matter.
This is what Tahnesha and I did today..

Growth And Fixed Mindset
Growth Mindset
Growth mindset is where you know that you can learn more. You can also learn/practice a lot to become better at it.
Fixed Mindset
Fixed Mindset is where you think that, just because you don't think you are good at something means you never will be.
How can you have a growth Mindset
You can have a Growth Mindset by saying I can't do something YET.
For example you can say " I'm not good at cooking yet." instead of " I'm not good at cooking."

Tsunami
We have been learning about chaotic events. We have been doing tsunamis. In 1958 there was a tsunami in alaska, it was 530 metres high. So I made a graph showing how tall the water was.
Hope you enjoy

Dilution Experiment.
In class on monday, we did an experiment using water and potassium permanganate.
Aim- To make a dilution series to investigate concentration.
Equipment- A potassium permanganate crystal, six large test tubes, tweezers, a plastic transfer pipette, a test tube rack, 10 mL measuring cylinder.
Method-
1: place the six test tubes in a test tube rack. label the rack with numbers 1-6.
2: Using the measuring cylinder, filln test tube 1 with 10 mL of water. Fill the remaining test tube with 5 mL of water.
3: Using your tweezers, add a single crystal of potassium permanganate to test tube 1.
4: Gently shake the test tube until the crystal has dissolved.
5:Using the transfer pipette, carefully remove exactly 5 mL from test tube 1 and pour it into test tube 2.
6: Rinse the transfer pipette thoroughly to ensure that no purple solution remains.
7: Gently shake test tube 2 and repeat the transfer process, transfering exactly 5 mL of solution from test tube 2 to test tube 3.
8:Rinse the pipette again and repeat the transfer process for test tubes 4, 5 and 6.
Results-
Conclusion/ discussion-
I saw that the colour of the liquid changed everytime we added the potassium permanganate. test tube number 1 is most concentrated than test tube number 6, so that's why number 6 is more lighter.
