Business

How does Kiwi ingenuity benefit new Zealand as a nation?

Because kiwis remake things that are not that smart into a better invention. New Zealand might not have a big amount of money but we have great ideas. People come up with ideas and new inventions all the time. That can help businesses become popular and make more money. If New Zealand gets more money they can get more tourists.

Wonder Viewing Notes 1

Wonder Viewing notes 1
Structure:Narrators change the perspective of the viewer- 1 Auggie, 2 Via, 3 Jack Will, 4 Miranda, 5 Auggie.

Opening scene- 0.36-1.46

Camera shots/angles: Eye level, Close up to make us think Auggie is in space, we later zoom out to see we are in his bedroom.

Special Effects: Slow motion of Auggie jumping. Makes more realistic as in space there is no gravity so people move slower.

Music/sound: diagetic-Ground control talking over radio, gives us the idea we are in space.
Music tempo starts slow with quiet dynamic to match the slow-mo of outter space. Tempo picks up when we zoom out to see Auggie in his room.

Symbols: Astronaut Helmet. Represents the phyiscal barrier Auggie puts between himself to others even when its off people don't really see him.

Quote: Auggie's dad: Nate " Its like leading lamb to the slaughter."

Science Classroom scene: 7.30s-9.28

Camera angle/shot: Open high angle wide shot, makes the room look big and scary and the students look weak and vulnerable.

Body language: Auggie walks with shoulders hunched, slouched posture, head down. This makes him look smaller and weaker. Trying not to be noticed.

Auggie's First class: 14.31s-

Camera angle/shot: Over shoulder eye level. Between Auggie and Julian. Cuts between close-ups of Auggie to show emotions and mid shots of Julian and the rest of the class. Makes it feel like Auggie is alone.

Quote: Summer: " When given the choice between being right and being kind. Choose kind."

Star wars symbol: Julien references Darth Sideous. Auggie has a padewon braid capprentice Jedi.

Star wars moments: Chewbacca- 32.40- Shows us and understands why people, but how he wished they'd deal with it.
-Everyone in the star wars universe looks strange, weird and deformed so no one treats them differently. This would be a safe place for Auggie because no one would stare.

Quotes:Auggie " I'm sorry if my staring made you feel uncomfortable."

Workshop 2- The impact of angles, movement and shots.

Shot 1- Jack and Julian are fighting because Jack has chosen to stand up to Julian after he called Auggie a freak.

Shots/angles- Dutch tilt-something is wrong
Low angle shot- to make the person on top look stronger-Jack and person below look weaker and vulnerable - Julian.
Close up- Part of action.

Viewers reaction-  The audience felt shocked, Concerned, surprised, worried.
- Jack had never stood up for Auggie before.
- Jack usually agrees with Julian.

Directors Purpose- Close up used to make us feel apart of the fight , see the characters emotions and reactions.
-Uses techniques to build our concern/shock.

Other techniques- Slow motion- used to show us the details in the tight- to fast otherwise.
- Minor, slow tempo, dynamics increase from quiet to help us focus and create atmosphere.

(S) In the fight scene between Jack and Julian, Camera angles are used effectively to draw the viewer into the scene. (E) This in demonstrated through the use of low angles, Close ups and dutch tilt shots. The low angle shot makes Jack look stronger and more aggressive, Whilst Julian looks weak and vulnerable below him. (X) This makes the audience feel concerned, shocked, surprised because up till this point Jack has always agreed with Julian. (X) The director did this to draw the viewer into the event and highlight Jacks struggle to choose between being right or being popular. (X) Combined with this is the use of slow motion and music which help us to see details on the characters faces and recognizes their emotional reactions. (Y) This can be compered to teh use of close up shots at the start of the film when we first meet August. They ar eboth used to show us a small part of a bigger moment.

Science Tests

Testing for simple sugars.

Aim: To test a sample of food to determine whether it contains simple sugar.

Equipment: Test Tubes, Benedicts solution, a sample of food.

Method:
Step 1- Place about 2 ml of the sample into a test tube and then add 5 drops of benedicts solution.
Step2-Put in a water bath until it changes colour. Do not boil.

Results-
Apple- Positive
potato-positive
Bread-Positive
Milk-Negative
Sugar-Positive
Egg-Positive

Testing for protein.

Aim: To test if a sample of food contains protein.

Hypo:Only the egg will turn purple.

Equipment: Test tube, Sodium hydroxide (haOH), Copper sulfate (coSO), Food sample.

Method:
Step 1- Place about 2 ml of the sample into a test tube and add 5 drops of sodium hydroxide.
Step 2- Add 5 drops of copper sulfate.
Step 3-Shake the test tube gently side to side.

Results:
Apple-Negative
Potato-Negative
Bread-Negative
Milk-Positive
Egg-Positive
Sugar-Negative

Conclusion: The egg and milk turned purple so they have protein in them but the rest didn't. I was nearly right I just didn't think milk would change.

Discussion: They turned purple because they come from animals and you can only get protein when it comes from animals.

Sustainability

Today for textiles we learned about sustainability and we had to make a slide show about what it is, the questions we answered were What is sustainability, what are some issues we face and how can we be more sustainable in our life time.

Enjoy.
