My week - Reflection
Parihaka
His children's children wearing the white plume.
What does "You can't pull out my roots" refer to?
That means even if you lock all of them up, they still have their culture with them.
Give evidence of their determination?
Rise up, defend yourself, never give in.
How does this song show the significance of Parihaka?
Shows how difficult is was for these people and the people in this generation today.
What makes an event significant?
Remembering the people that were effected in those days.
How many people are affected?
Everyone that lived back then and their family members that live now.
How long were people affected?
People are still affected by this, and they will continue to be affected by this for years.
To what extant are people affected?
Mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

Slam Poetry
My favorite performance was " I'm not gay but I'd go gay for John Key." I like that one because he is funny but also he is bringing John Key up by complimenting him.
Two of my favorite "quotes" in the video were: " It's brave when he speaks because he has the courage to be a leader but to not bother to sound like one." and " So call me John Key you cheeky monkey call me, thank you."

Drawing for proportion, tone and texture.
In art we have been learning about shading. We have been drawing cups, rocks and wood panels.
I would like my shading to become better and be able to draw shapes more realistic.
Toning is light to dark.
Metaphors and similes.
Metaphor - A metaphor is a term you would use to describe something. Some people use it to complement someone else. Some other people could use it to insult other people. For example: He is a shining star.
Simile - A simile is a sentence using "as" or "like". People use it to compare something to another thing. For example: She was as brave as a lion.
Sensory Language
In English we had to write a paragraph about a story a time in your life or something made up. You had to include all 5 of your senses, without using the words saw, heard, felt, smelled, tasted.
As I was walking outside, I was listening to the birds chirping. I could see the kids playing a game on the field across the street. The bright sun was too bright to keep your eyes open for too long. As I was sitting at the table with my breakfast in front of me, I was starting to burn from the sun.

Spirituals - Music through time
African slaves would use music to communicate to each other. They would sing songs everyday, the songs would talk about hope, freedom and they would also sing about there religion. The Africans would sing all these songs to encourage each other to not lose hope. Harriet Tubman and other slaves would talk to each other through music to make a strategy to escape. They would go from southern America and go up north to the other state that would keep them safe. Harriet Tubman would sneak other slave through the underground rail road. One of the many songs were Steal Away. This music is still evident today because there is still racism in America. Last year there was the Black Lives Matter movement. This movement actually started many years ago but it came back last year with the George Floyd situation. Some artist like Kayne West use there music today to talk about the racism in America.
